FOOD  AND NUTRITION SECURITY PROGRAMME

PHCD focus is mainly on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition IMAM by enabling the community to achieve various initiatives .We have tried to mitigate the impact of climate change on agriculture through various activities which include, conservative agriculture through building individual capacities, sustainable agricultural productivity for food security, adapting and building resilience to climate change.  

Kajiado,Machakos and Makueni  Counties have a high rate of malnutrition and this is a threat to achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2030 . Reducing the rates of malnutrition in these counties is not just a health issue but calls for a multi-sectoral approach where different sectors join hands with a common goal. There are high occurrences of nutrition-related ailments in children due to lack of food variety and adequate quantity as a result of frequent droughts.

PHCD Food and Nutrition Programme thrives to empower communities to claim their right to proper nutrition and also be provided with equal opportunities and enabling the environment to meaningfully contribute to an equally benefit from the development agenda towards realizing this right.

 Hunger and inadequate food supply are still affecting large parts of the County’s population with serious consequences for health and well-being, especially in women and children. Malnutrition in childhood interferes with physical and mental development, thus compromising whole lives. So far, efforts are ongoing to combat malnutrition and make progress towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture (SDG 2).
